Help us offset our environmental impact

If you subscribe to the belief that aeroplanes are some of the biggest carbon criminals out there, or, if like Joe, you've watched every episode of Air Crash Investigation ever produced, then you might start to think that driving overland is a safer solution than flying - and possibly better for mother nature too.

However, given that our weapon of choice is a 4.2L Diesel, we appreciate that the impact of our journey on the environment is huge, even four times more than if we just chilled out at home for a year.

According to Carbon Planet, the average Australian car emits about 4.1 tonnes of CO2-e every year. Up to 60,000km, our trip will accumulate upto 18.3 tonnes of CO2-e!

We're keen to rectify our environmental impact as we go, which is why we've setup a fundraising page for Green Fleet. Greenfleet Australia is a charity helping people reduce the environmental impact of travel, business and lifestyle choices. Their motto is to AVOID and REDUCE greenhouse gas emissions where possible, then OFFSET the rest by recapturing carbon dioxide in biodiverse native forests.

Established in 1997, when climate change was still a disputed phenomenon (even more so than today), Greenfleet has been helping Australians reduce their impact for more than a decade.

Since then they have planted more than 6 million trees, which will recapture in excess of 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide as they grow - this is equivalent to taking more than 400,000 cars off the road for an entire year.

Your donation will help plant more native forests to absorb greenhouse gases, reduce salinity and erosion, restore habitat for native wildlife and much more.

Our goal is to raise $1000 for Greenfleet. If you'd like to help us contribute to the offset, please click the Sponsor Me button on the right.

Thank you.
